Is your dream to become a Nurse? Maxine Waters Employment Preparation Center offers a comprehensive 13-month (1530 hours) course that prepares students to successfully pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). Training is rigorous and competitive with intense hours of instruction and studying in exchange for a rewarding career in the healthcare profession. Students will learn ethics, safety principles, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, medical terminology, psychology and nutrition, medical and surgical procedures, obstetrical and pediatric nursing, clinical health care facility systems, and more. The Licensed Vocational Nurse class schedule may vary and includes hours for both theory principles and clinical practices. Students must be over 18 years of age prior to the clinical rotation schedule. The fee for the LVN program is $6,200. Prerequisites for the program include a U.S. High School Diploma/High School Equivalency/AA or BA Degree with official transcripts, score of 10th grade reading and 9th grade math on the District issued TABE exam, proof of computer literacy skills, satisfactory physical examination and live scan, current AHA or BLS healthcare provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate, and proof of valid California identification and social security card. Candidates testing this year are applying for the 2020-2021 LVN class and candidates are allowed to test once in a program year. Testing is scheduled twice each year, once in February and once in September. The September sign-up link for testing will post on our school website the first week of September. On testing day, check-in to the Main Office at 7:30 a.m. Please bring a valid original photo identification card (copies are not accepted). Admission in the testing room is not permitted once the test begins and no cell phones are allowed in testing area. You may refer to the TABE Study Resources provided at the ASSESSMENT link, and other test preparation materials to practice for the exam. Please give yourself sufficient time to study and practice examples of test questions.
